what happens when you see a counsellor?

do counsellors just ask you question that you answer, or do they make you talk?? I”m so scared!! please help me. And If I go to the doctor to get a refferal, will they want to see my cuts and burns and crap?? I cant cope with doctors

do counsellors just ask you question that you answer - yes or do they make you talk?? - and again yes in general you will be doing the majority of the talking, there will be some direct questions (yes/no) especially in the beginning when they’re gathering information, but later on you’ll be talking more (dont worry it’s not as hard as it seems)

And If I go to the doctor to get a refferal, will they want to see my cuts and burns and crap?? - no, you dont even have to tell them about it, if you say you’ve been feeling depressed or whatever and you’d like to talk to someone that should be enough. Im not sure you even have to go to a doctor?

“if you talk to someone about everything, sombody that your keeping it from will end up finding out “ - uhm counselors have a strict code of ethics (not to mention it is mandated by law) to keep EVERYTHING you say confidential. Even the fact that you’re a client is confidential… If they see you on the street they’re not supposed to acknowledge you unless you say it’s ok… Ofcourse this is tricky when it comes to minors…

if you talk to someone about everything, sombody that your keeping it from will end up finding out :( its the way it goes! Well it happened to me lol good luck =(

I understand how you feel. usually they ask you questions to get you 2 talk but if you dont want to talk they will wait until your ready 2 speak. I never told them how I really felt and that I use 2 self harm just 4 the fear of them telling my parents. but just letting your feelings out 2 them makes you feel a little better cause unlike other people they will listen. GOOD LUCK!
