What GB should I get for my laptop?

Im getting a macbook for christmas that is 2 gb. I am also getting microsoft office that takes up 1.5 gb. Is that enough space left for a student that likes playing games on the computer or should I get more GBs?

I have read these responses, and don’t think those that have no idea what they are talking about should give advice. To answer your question…

If you are getting a MacBook (not my choice, much more PC can be bought for the money), the 2 GB refers to RAM (which is not much on modern laptops, though Macs do use less RAM than PC’s) Microsoft Office is available on Mac O/S, and it will take up 1.5GB of hard drive storage.

Hard drive storage is more likely to be above 200GB, and is where programs and documents are saved to be called into RAM. The reason computers have RAM, is because it is exponentially faster than hard drive storage, and the processor cannot directly access the hard drive information to execute any commands. A previous reply noted that a limited amount of memory will slow downloads, while download speeds are actually almost completely unrelated to the amount of memory a computer has. If you use all of your memory, the computer will start to use more and more of your hard drive space to keep allowing programs to run, so make sure you have plenty of RAM (and as I wrote earlier 2GBs of RAM is not very much for a modern laptop).

So.. yes it will come with enough RAM to run the software and more storage space for plenty of other files (and programs, though the game selection for Macs is scarce, and Macs don’t come with much for graphics).

When you have a mac computer and you want to have both mac and pc on the computer than you need as much memory as possible like 4gs otherwise the computer will run really really slow and takes forever to download anything expecially if its a mac

Answer #3

wait wait a macbook with mircrosoft programs wtf I hope you know the differnce between a mac and a pc if your getting a mac get a program that best fits your mac not a pc program it will not work

Answer #4

I doubt it has a 2G harddrive…to give an example, mine is 222G…

you are likely talking about Memory or RAM…even so, mine has 4G. I’d go with at least 3G of RAM/memory if you intend to play games.

Answer #5

do yuo know the full spec?

got a link to it cus 2gb means nothing ;)

Answer #6

2gb is tiny!!! I think you have the wrong size… I don’t think theres a single laptop out there that comes with 2gb storage space… =|

Answer #7

I’d be willing to bet money that the 2GB you are referring to is not the hard drive space but the SDRAM. So Microsoft Office will take up 1.5 GB of hard drive space, but it will not affect the RAM. The amount of RAM affects how many operations your computer can perform at any given time. Your hard drive space is how much information can be stored on your computer.

A 2-GB hard drive would not be sold in any modern laptop.
