Television: A bad influence?

The television has its good side. It can be educational, entertaining and allow more family time for younger and older viewers. But it does have its bad side. It allows kids access to violence and drug abuse. Much more than parents would like their kids to see. Not only does the television show bad things, it can affect their behavior as well. Spending too much time watching TV can affect school grades, sleep and even weight. The television has revolutionized the way news and information is spread around the world. We can instantly know what is going on throughout the world. Likewise, messages of negative views, and inappropriate behavior can be broadcast into our homes and the lives of viewers of any age.

The television has a huge impact on the kids who watch it. It is easy for a viewer to find a role model he or she can identify with. They watch how they act, talk and even dress. Sure, there are some good role models out there, but not all of them are good. Some of the role models of the viewers may smoke, do drugs, or may not even dress their age, which reflects on the kids, and makes them think that its okay to smoke, do drugs, and dress like they do. It can affect your school grades too. Spending too much time watching television makes you forget all about your school work causing you to stay up later, and rushing through your work so you can get finished quickly. Then you stay up even later because you didn’t do the work, which causes you to not have enough rest to do anything to next day. Also, it can affect your weight. When all you do is watch TV for two straight hours causes you to miss out on sports, which help keep you healthy and fit.
