What do I do if my puppy has diarreah and is throw up?

I have an 8 week old boxer and he won’t eat. We took him to the vet and they gave him an injection and some meds to put in his food but he won’t eat his food so therefore is not getting his meds. When he does eat a little he throws it up and has very foul smelling diarreah. Is there anything else I can do to get him to eat. The vet gave us a certain wet food for him but wont even eat that either.

Foul smelling diarrhea…might be parvo. Please take him back to the vet and ask for a fecal test. As phrannie said…keep him hydrated. That is extremely important.

Did you ask your vet what it was? Sounds like parvo to me.

For now, try feeding him bland chicken and rice and if he still throws up by tomorrow go back to the vet and ASK what is wrong and what he can do.

Did they do a fecal test? A pup this young is very suseptable to parvo. If he won’t eat his regular food, try boiling some rice with a tiny bit of hamberger in it…let it cool to room temp and offer that. Also, you can try low sodium chicken broth…and see if that will tempt him.

If he has parvo, you might have to force feed him…not dog food, but unflavored yogurt, the rice mixture, baby mush…anything that is bland…as long as he’s got something in his intestinal tract. Make sure he takes in water (or pediolite, broth, etc)…as he’ll need to stay hydrated.

I sure hope he doesn’t have parvo. That can be Hell, but since he got an injection it sounds like you need to just take care of him. He’s not going to eat yet, but he will. For now your best option is to force-feed him pedialite (yes, the stuff for kids) about three times a day. This will keep him from dehydrating (which is what usually kills dogs with parvo)… After about a week he’ll begin to eat again. I like to mix ginger-ale with the pedialite because it helps with his upset stomach.

I hope the little fella makes it. Keep us updated!
