They do make you high, the high is a relaxed feeling. It isn’t a bunch of hallucinating $hit, or a wonderful dunderful feeling. Its just a relaxing feeling. But its not relaxing to the point where you can’t function.

My father, as a smoker, smokes because he believes it relieves stress. And like Chevy said, cigarettes give off a relaxing feeling.

Some people are just unable to quit after the first cigarette (nicotine is highly addictive). They may just not be able to get away. So yes, maybe there is no point. But most smokers that I have spoken to say it is a way to relieve stress, due to the satisfication and relaxing feeling they get from a puff.
