Do you have a promise ring?

Sorry guys, the website was being…stubborn. The topic is…Promise rings. Do you have a promise ring? What was said when you got the promise ring? Why do you have a promise ring? And do you think promise rings are only meant for boyfriend/girlfriend relationships?

Answer #1

I had a promise ring before I got engaged/married. To me, it signified a bit more of a commitment so that other people knew to back off. We viewed it as like a pre-engagement ring. We both discussed the ring, and we went together to pick it out, so nothing was really ‘’said’’. I knew I wanted hearts, and we knew what our combined budget was (my current husband and I started sharing money just a few months into our relationship).

Are they just for boyfriend/girlfriend relationships? I don’t think so necessarily. It’s just a symbol of commitment to someone. I think you could very well have one in a gay relationship or even in a personal relationship with your chosen deity. It just depends on who you’re promising something to. What that promise includes also varies from person to person. For us, it just meant that we weren’t going to be just a fling like so many couples around us. We wanted more, and eventually, we got just that.

Even though I have my wedding band and engagement ring on my left hand now, I wear my promise ring on my right because I love it. It has a small .10 carat diamond in it, but the hearts that I mentioned earlier are on the side, not on top. In other words, if you look right down on my hand, all you see is a diamond. If you take the ring off and hold it so that you can see the circle flat, you can see hearts cut out of that with a big heart mounting the diamond. The ring was fairly inexpensive…$400 I think. It was enough for the time, and I’m not big on jewelry anyways. What I got is perfect, and really it’s the thought that means more than anything else.

I don’t. I don’t believe in wearing a ring to show that you promise something. You should already know that promise yourself. You don’t need a ring for it. Besides like zudano said, the promises are broken most of the time anyways it seems so what’s the point?

I got a promise ring from my now ex fiance about a year after we started dating .. it was a promise to show that we wanted to be together .. I also bought him one .. and we ended up engaged … but it didnt work … I think a promise ring can have many meanings .. .. not just for boyfriend/girlfriend relationships

Answer #5

I think they are childish and the majority of the time the promise is broken. Most guys that buy these buy them becuase they are pressured to. In the older guys its just a way to hold off on an engagement.
