What Band or singer from the past would you loved to have seen live

I just saw one of my childhood heroes in concert last night, Gary Numan. Not sure if you know him in the US but her was at the forefront of synthesizer based music in the late 1970’s when I saw him live for the first time.

It made me wonder what bands or singers I would have loved to have seen from the past (and what period) and I came up with my top five:

  1. David Bowie in 1973
  2. Beatles - 1966
  3. Jimi Hendrix - 1969
  4. Santana - 1975
  5. Rolling Stones - 1969

What would your favourite 5 be?

The Offspring when Dexter Holland still had his corn rows

Demented are Go because I would vicariously be both cool and tough

The Reverend Horton Heat when Smoke’em if you Got’em came out…Sort of like an Acid trip faceplanted onto a backwoods latenight hootnanny…these are the things my lucid dreams want to be when they grow up.

The Scorpions, but only if they were playing at an eighties arcade or rollerskating rink with dim lighting, carpeted walls, and scratch’n’sniff stickers were plastered everywhere…these are the things my fantasies…you know the rest.

Dominic Arturio, the best known hurdy gurdy proprietor in Little Italy, They say he had a rhesus monkey(iron mike tyson) that not only taught Gregory Hines his famous shim sham shimmy to running shuffles transition but could make change to boot.

Honorable mention to The Bloodhound Gang back when Daddy Longlegs was on the roster.

Answer #12

I know I saw bowie in 73 (and everytime he played memphis) and the beatles in 66 ( I was just a baby, lol) hendrix in 69, I know I saw santana in the 70’s can’t remember the year but gregg rollie was in the lineup but I didn’t see the stones live until 75..oops. (they were never my favorite anyway)

I was extremely lucky to have a best friend whose dad was in the music business who took us to many concerts and parents that allowed me to go at such an early age. I can remember my mom watching ed sullivan with me and loving the beatles. she never cared for elvis.

Answer #15

Aha! Just looked up the group Sublime:

Sublime was an American ska-punk band that originated in Long Beach, California. Sublime consisted of three members: Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Bud Gaugh (drums), and Eric Wilson (bass guitar). Former members include Kelly Vargas (drums) and Michael Happoldt for a very short time (guitar).

The band achieved major mainstream success with their self-titled third album; however, Nowell died of a heroin overdose, in his hotel room on the west side of San Francisco, shortly before it was released, resulting in the band’s split in 1996.

Worldwide, Sublime has sold 17 million albums,[2] including about 10 million in the U.S. alone.

Answer #16

Janis Joplin, That was another good one that would have been in a top ten of mine Editor!

Its interesting to see some of the replies as I am in Britain and there are a few bands/singers I have not heard of.

Just Googled them out of interest.

PS I think I would have put Elvis (1968) in the list if it had been a top ten, just to say that I had seen him. And maybe U2 at the original Live Aid concert.
