What are your thoughts on the media?

I watch TV a lot, can’t help it, but I really really hate how shows like 90210 or The OC make me feel like my life is so inferior in comparison to them. In GossipGirl everyone is all sophisticated and beautiful and all that. Most movies also have that fairytale ending which so rarely happens in real life. This is so frustrating. But then why do people keep watching anyway?

People generally watch T.V. to get away from their own life and be entertained. I agree about 90210, the old one was about wealthy kids, and the new one seems to be geared for even more “glamor” and money. The older shows “Friends”, “Cheers” and other sitcoms about “real” people were a lot better.

I don’t watch TV anymore (truthfully, I’m sticking to cartoons only). it may seem childish, but the media is what has caused me and my other friends to be depressed. it’s also the same thing that drove my cousin to suicide. my advice to young people is to stay away from it; all it wants to do is put thoughts in your head that don’t need to be there.

becuase people can ‘lose’ themselves in that ‘life’…

god, if all we wanted to watch was stuff that was awful, we’d just watch eastenders - now THAT’S depressing!

when you watch those problems, you only looking at the shallow aspects of it, or the material aspects, look deeper, generally the people in them live troubled and problamtic lives…hardly something enviable really, same problems, just dressed up nicer!

so they kind of show that even with all the luxury things, and the ‘pretty’ things in life, you still have problems…
