im doing a school project and I chose vet as my career, but I cant find one of the requirements- what benefits does a vet have? and by benefits I mean insurance, vaca days, sick leave, etc. any help at all is appreciated!
Well it depends. If you stay in the military and retire after 20 years then you have lots of benefits. The only ones I know are that you get free or discounted medical care at military hospitals, you get to shop at military PX stores, the PX is like a department store but for military personnel they have electronics, clothes, etc. You get to shop at the Commisary, is like a grocery store. There are many other benefits.
If you only spend little military time, you are still a veteran, but with very little benefits. Only one I remember is that you get to use a veteran administtration backed loan to buy a house at better terms than some other loans.
It depends for whom you work...city (animal shelter, police kennels, etc.) you get the benefits that city has to offer.
Private practice you get whatever you can afford.
There is no set guideline for vets.
oh, thanks, but I guess I should have specified that I wanted a vet as in an animal doctor! sorry!
