yes, weight may have the same sort of genetic component as height. There is definately an environmental component, but they way you respond to the environment is genetic. Think of the way some people can eat how they like and not gain any weight, where others can be really careful what they eat and still gain weight really easily. What some of the people in my lab are researching is the epigenetics of obesity. Basically, they are looking at how a womans diet during pregnancy can influence which of the babies genes are active and what seems to happen is that when a pregnant woman is underweight or overweight, her child is predispositioned towards obesity as certain genes are switched on or off in response.
I don't believe so, (not positive). If it was, every parent that was over weight would have over weight kids. But that is not the case...there are skinny parents with big kids, and big parents with skinny kids. I believe people are over weight due to poor diet, lack of exercise, health problems, etc...not just because their parents are....but I am sure the health problems are genetic....
I think they need to start explaining genetics earlier on in school. Very few people seem to grasp the concept. Yes and no. Weight itself is not genetic. However, metabolism rates and other such things that can have an effect on your weight are partially genetic. Very few things are purely genetic. Most human characteristics are a combination of genes and environment.
I think parents and children can be of similar weight and size because the children follow the lifestyle of their parents. So basically if your parents eat really healthily, their kids will be given healthy food too. I don't think it's genetic. But maybe it is? :>
Yessss. If you have fat parents, odds are you are going to be a little chubby yourself. But you cant blame it all on the parents. Some of it is the kids fault by being lazy and not excerising.
Yes in some cases it is. There are a few factors that contribute to weight gain genetically however you can combat them you just have to try a little harder than others who just don't care.
There can be a genetic distorter that could cause weight gain or loss, I really don't think the actual weight is genetic, Your weight is more less your life style.
For example everyone's metabolic rate in some sense comes from their parents. If you are big boned or small boned where you body fat is distributed etc.
Health most likely is genetic, but the weight is yourself I believe. It's up to YOU on how much weight you gain and how you lose it.
That depends if you have the fat gene. Gok Wan showed me that, lol :D
Good point if parents don't set a healthy lifestyle their kids won't.
Yeaa, something like that. There's loads of other things too though.
Well Im around 145 and my dad is 265 and mom is same
The fat gene? =/
