Hi your dog will need to be at least two and only mate her fromher second heat onwards. You will need to find a stud dog and she will need to be mated from the 14th day of her cycle she will need to be put to the dog on 3 sep occasions over following next 6 days. At 40 days after first mating she can be scanned to see how many pups she will be having. A great book that tells you everthing you need to know is called “The book of the *itch” The star stands for B. Hope this helps Marie

I have to agree with harleyrider. You should only breed your dog if you are wanting to help better the breed and not just trying to make a quick buck. By getting her and her could be stud tested for all of that and if your dog or the stud could have any diseases that could possibly be passed down to the puppies. Usually people who breed there dog they usually get atleast the first shot and deworm done before the puppies leaves the home incase the future buyer has other dogs and they wouldnt want there dog to catch anything the puppy may have. So my questions are..

Do you have enough money to get the mom checked on a regular basis to make sure the puppies are still healthy.

Have enough money for all the food the mom and babies will eat. Will you be able to be there 24-7 if anything happens to one or maybe all puppies if mom has complications and are you willing to let your dog die if there are horrible complications. Puppies are not a half time job.

have money for all of their first shots and de-worming. Are you willing to make 150 percent sure that they are going to go to good homes and as harley said willing to take puppies back if the families arent able to keep them anymore.

If you are serious about this and say yes to everything then I would take to a couple reputable breeders and see what they have done and what they havent done to better the breed of the dog that you have.

She is old enough to be breed. LOTS of things to think about before breeding a dog.

  1. DO YOU HAVE MONEY??? yes it takes money to whelp a good, healthy litter of puppies, and be able to pay the vet if anything urgent needs to happen

  2. Do you have the knowledge to know about vaccines and the importance of them

  3. Dog viruses like Parvo, kennal cough, distemper

  4. Willing to take the puppy back if it does not work out with the new owner

  5. screen the buyers, make sure these pup’s are going to the right home, if not then tell the buyer you dont’ think it is a good match

  6. had a good health check up on the female and male, blood work, hip issues, skin, allergery, The last thing you want to do it breed a dog with bad genes.

I don’t mind people that breed with all of the above in mind. I DO MIND idiot breeds who sell the puppies with non of the above in mind and they end up at the vet hospital where I work to be euthanized becasue they have Parvo, or need hip surgery. But do keep in mind there are hundreds of dog in shelters all over the place. And A good breeder does not really make any money off of breeding, they do it for the love of the breed
