Unsure on your career

I’m almost in the middle of my career. Have you ever try to quit what you’re studing at college??? I just get so bored sometimes and dont really care what professors got to teach me. How do I know if I made a mistake with my career?

I think if you are unsure that’s your answer

I can tell you a few things…I did want to be a medical examiner and still love science and all and must add this is before all the shows. My aunt was one and took me all-let’s just say-she made sure before I got into it if I could handle all parts. And I could, until on thing got me. And then. As trilingual I went onto something else.

I tell you this because I ended up teaching and knowing that my students were always taught my guidence to follow their passion which IS true and untrue because to a certain point it makes you happy and unhappy at the same time

Because you have to ask yourself. Who do you want to see everyday? What do you want to wear? Is it ok if you miss major holidays? What work schedule do yo uwant? How much money do YOU need to be comfortable in your life pay your loans etc…Really, because loving your job…it’s only going to go so far when you can barely keep your lights on

And some of the best advice I’ve gotten is “every week has a monday, if you hate monday it’s a long week” “never take job advice from people who hate their jobs.” “even people who love their jobs don’t LOVE their jobs” “everyone has couple of job changes now, there is no such thing as a cradle to the grave job anymore.”

To me doubt has always meant don’t

And I agree, I think taking some other classes is good idea. I do know many people who’ve ended up doing for work what they did in college, some because they actually found they liked it better. And me, well. Bilingual nurse on the make now. Just my way of saying to each their own. Counselors can help. I know great ones and ones who aren’t worth much. And yes, listen to yourself, do something you love to do, because if you hate your job it’s going to boil over into every aspect of your life but if you only do it because you love it, and it doesn’t let you make ends meet etc than the same thing happens.

I’ve always asked the students “what would you do if you weren’’t afraid?” And turns out…they go for all different jobs because the think it’s something else, or someone wants them to, etc etc… ME… I know it was great-having the ability to just pick up and go to University in different countries and have I count at home and just take my backpack and travel and then know-I have no idea if it appeals to you and their are school programs but I do know a lot of people I met there really had eye opening moments. Not saying you have to do that. Only, I’m betting if you are unsure, then your body is telling you no. However, it doesn’t mean whatever you’ve been doing is a waste. It could do along with something else.

I’d say go to a career counselor, most colleges have them… Take a class or two in other stuff… generally the way to know you’ve made a mistake is by taking something you’re not interested in, but trying to get into a field for other reasons… this is the rest of your life, do what you love…
