Well im 17 I am sexually active, i've only had one partner though and im going to my first obgyn appointment next month and i want to get a contraseptive to be safe, i dont want to get "the shot" because a few of my friends gained alot of wieght from it & i dont really want to get put on birth control because i am young and i will probably forget to take it occasionally. So whats somthing you recomend i could get? that i wont gain alot of wieght on?
You mean the pill when you said birth control right? Anyways, different people will react differently to different forms of contraceptives. It might make someone else gain weight but it might not make you. You really just have to try them, although I wouldn't recommend the depo-shot. It's usually a last resort, ontop of that you don't get a period which is rather nerve-racking for some women. Since you don't want something that's daily, what about the patch or the nuvaring? The patch is a sticker/bandage like thing that you stick onto your skin in several areas, like your hips. You do this once a week for three weeks, then no patch for the week you bleed. Or the nuvaring, which is a ring you insert into your va.gina once a month. It's left three weeks in, one week out for your period. There is also the IUD, which is a little copper-device-like thing that is inserted in your uterus. It lasts up to five years. You should talk to your gyno for more information and for his/her suggestions. On top of that, remember that your body is different, so what might work for you, won't work for other. I'm on the nuvaring myself, I've read MANY reviews on how girls gain weight, get random bleeding, etc. But for me? My period is light, I don't get random bleeding, and my weight is the same.
Everyone reacts differently to different methods, you just have to find the one for you. My gyno said that the pill is the easiest as you don't have to go through as much. As for your comment on taking the pill, that is not necessarily true. Being young doesn't have anything to do with it. I actually almost got into an argument with a male doctor over it because he assumed that because I'm 16 I must always forget. I've been taking the pill since I was 14 and never forget about it whereas my Mum, who is 36 and has been on it for a lot of her adult life, does very often. Sorry just had to add that.
Different pills do different things to different people. You can ask for a copper IUD which stays in place for years, so there is no forgetting involved.
