How do I make a true type font file under my list of fonts so I can use it in MSN, notepad and wordpad?

I downloaded it off the internet, and it says its a compressed file as well?

I recommend that you:

(1) check whether the file really is compressed first: right click on the file and use [properties] to look at the filename extension - they are usually a group of three characters after a full stop (eg. .zip .rar etc.).

(2) if you do not recognize the filename extension you can look up what type it is at: http://funadvice.com/r/14n6p25r3la

(3) if the file really is compressed, it may be a “self extracting file” which will de-compress when you click on it. If it is not a self-extracting file, you need a suitable program to de-compress it. WinZip is a suitable program for the most common compressed file types.

(4) If you decompress a file that you downloaded from the internet it is recommended that you scan it it for viruses before and after de-compressing it.

(5) if the filename extension is .ttf it should not be a compressed file (but it may be a damaged/“corrupt” file that “looks like” it is compressed to the operating system in your computer).

To install a True Type Font to your Fonts folder so that it can be used by your installed programs (including those that you mention) you need to follow the installation routine appropriate for your version of the operating system - typically something like this:

[start] [Control Panel] [Fonts] [File] [Install New Font]

You will then need to “browse” to the location where your new font is stored, using the drop down menu of of Drives and Folders. When you click on the correct folder (where your Font is stored) the operating system should find all Fonts that are stored there, and list them in the “List of Fonts” box. Click on the required Font, then click [OK}.

Note that the procedure installs the Font for use on your computer.
If you use that Font so that it displays correctly on your screen, it does not mean that the font will necessarily be seen the same way on somebody else’s remote computer, if you send them a document or “message” them.

If they have not got the same font installed on their computer, their display may only be able to use a substitute font that is available in their machine.
