Answer #1

Tracking cookies are usually nothing you need to worry about. They are not programs or viruses, nor can they be used to infect your system with viruses.

Whenever you log onto many (but not all) sites, a small piece of data is placed on your computer called a cookie. This piece of data is extremely small and usually contains just enough information to tell the website, for instance, your username and password or what preferences you’ve selected for a particular website.

When you log onto FunAdvice, does it remember who you are without having to log in? If so, that’s becuase you’ve got a FunAdvice tracking cookie on your computer. And that’s why they keep coming back – becuase you keep using the internet. If you go into your browser’s program folder, you’ll likely find a folder called “cookies” that contains the cookies for every site you’ve recently visited.

If you want to control the number of cookies you receive, turn your Internet security preferences to High. That will usually prompt your browser to ask you if you want to accept or decline cookies whenever a web site wants to give you one. Chances are, though, you’ll soon get very tired of clicking “accept.”
