track/cross country

okay I run track and I sprint I run the 200 100 and im on the four by one team should I be running cross country?..my coach wants me to but I don’t know if a sprinter should be running distance?..any help?

Answer #1

I do both. I am the opposite- I did cross country first then did track. it is good for a runner to work on all aspects of running- both sprints, and jogging. plus, its a good way to stay in shape. and, I learned that after doing XC, you are in better shape for track, because you can handle long distances, and know how to pace yourself.

dont do it

Well I’m on scholarship at a university for track and I sprint as well. I don’t think it is a good idea at ALL for you to be running cross country. Especially if you run the 100 and 200..I run the 100 200 and 400 and my coach thinks that I should try cross country as well because you need a lot of endurance for the 400. But because you are a 100 and 200 runner that would only mess everything up that you have ever worked for because it takes away your “fast twitch muscles”. You need those for speed, so if you run distance it takes away from that and all you have is that endurance. So tell your coach no thank you lol
