Can either time or space exist without the other?

Answer #1

what do u mean…(kind of confuse here)

Answer #2

not exactly no because time is needed just as much as space is with one the other may not exsist

Answer #3

nope

Answer #4

Technically speaking (which is how your speaking), time is just a theory, its a sectioning of passing events so that we can attempt to keep control over things that are out of our control (such as time). So, when you think about it, yes they can exist apart from each other, because time itself doesn’t exist. Also, neither relies on the other in any way or form. If you stop a watch nothing is going to happen in the universe that isn’t already going to happen :) Hope my logical theoretics helped :)

Answer #5

Thanks for your reply. Doing research for a project. Here is how I look at it. Let me know if you still disagree: There is absolutely no way that time can exist without something for it to measure, so time cannot exist without space. There is also no way that space can exist without time because if there were a way then everything in space would be standing still eternally. Space is obviously not standing still so we can deduce that time and space cannot exist without one another. I get what you’re saying about time being a theory, but if something in space is moving, then isn’t it moving in time even if no one is measuring it?

Answer #6

Nope, time is measuring the movements of things in space. yes i agree with your theory that without space time cannot exist because we would have nothing to measure. But space exists irrespective of time, because time simply measures the movements of space :) If someone were to stop the clock then things would keep on moving. however, if someone were to effectively stop everything moving then time would not exist :)

Answer #7

So basically, time has nothing to do with space other than the meaning we give to it. Space cannot exist without events and movements occurring one after the other though, right? otherwise, it would be standing still. thanks

Answer #8

:D That’s okay :) Hope I helped :)
