This is a question for Muslim women...

Or people who know muslim women.
I met a Muslim girl once and we were just talking. She said she wanted to model at one time but the dream was quickly terminated because of her religion. She said it is prohibited to expose her body in public. She could never walk down a runway with a baithingsuit. She was very traditional. Do less traditional Muslim women feel the same way? Or can you wear what you want? I don’t want any offensive comments towards the religion of Islam. I just would like answers from the women themselves, or like I said people who know Muslim women. Thanks to all who answer!

Hi sweety! I am a muslim, I wear hijab but, I have many friends who don’t wear it. They dress nicely and in my opinion dresser better than some other girls in hijab.

Lol PearlGurl, you musn’t have ‘scoured’ very hard. Because it’s there in 24:30; ‘And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their chests, and not to reveal their adornment’

My opinion, women are treated like one big vagina in Islam. Islam forbids any part of the body except the face, hands and feet. And at best the Taliban in Afghanistan are fierce enforcers of ‘hijaab’, which is what covering up is called. Being a former Muslim I can perhaps give you an idea. Being from a mixed Malay-Indian-African family, the matter of covering up is more western than middle eastern. While most Arab countries practice a high level of ‘hijaab’, others place less emphasis, for example, not all Indian women wear the traditional dress and would rather wear a sari, most Berber (Moorish) women also do not wear a veil and even have their faces tattooed. Its all up to the lady’s upbringing. Some Islamic cultures are strict like in Saudi Arabia, others are less fanatical. personally I find it insulting to women forcing them to cover their whole bodies. Oh ja, how can we forget the hordes of Arab men that go to western destinations to enjoy a ‘view’ or too, maybe more than a view… And at home they act all innocent…

sardonicol… There are muslims who don’t where hijab… and they’re GREAT muslims comprairing to other muslms… and I lived in Saudi Arabia… it’s not as bad as you’re describing it… it depends on whih area you’re in… like for example, in Jeddah… some people go around in their clothes, some people go around without hijab, some people go around with coloured hijab, and some people go around in their pj’s!! and no, islam doesn’t treat women like a Vagina… it depends on the area your in… I’m sorry, sardonicol, but your idea about islam is very twisted… you need to fix it, you haven’t seen real muslims… do not judge muslims from saudi people… besides, if an American comes to england for vacation, and he was a reaaally bad person, and he was a muslim… would I judge the whole country that they’re all bad people??? No. and that’s what everyone out there is doing… there are bad people everywhere, wether it’s in India, America, Britain, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, EVERYWHERE!! and again, you need to read more books about islam, your idea about it is seriously twisted…

Answer #4

I doubt she was very traditional, very traditional muslims would not have even considered becoming a model… It depends really on the community you belong to, whether you choose to accept their values, and then there are certain muslims who are pretty liberal (not considered ‘real muslims’ by other sects) who dont really follow any of the traditional rules…

I think u’ll get better answers… lol, I’ve just been living with muslims “in a muslim country* for a pretty long time, so yea… that’s my answer… but hey!! Answer #6

muslims are not allowed to expose their body to public

Answer #7

The Islamic veil is basically identical to clothing of traditional representation of Mary. Islam didn’t invent the veil, it rather endorsed it. It’s a sign of faith, modesty and chastity which serves to protect the devout from molestation.
