What is a "theme" (not a party theme)?

and i know theme is an underlying message but any examples?

A theme is the overall lesson in a story. It is th message that the author wants the reader to see.

For example, one of my favourite plays is the merchant of venice, some of the themes in that are justice religion racism. Or some of the theme’s in Arthur Millers “A view from the bridge” is honour family and love. Hope this helps, i did really well in english before i left school, the only reason i didn’t get an A was because of the stupid close reading but i am good at essays (my merchant of venice sympathy essay is still being talked about :D) if you need any help just funmail me. I really miss english so any chance to show off my knowledge is fun :D

a theme e.g. in Romeo and Juliet, the main theme is romance :)
