Which is the greater of two evils?

Which do you think is worse?

a) someone who posts at least 3 times a day on a forum (about tech and gaming stuff) saying how how much she misses her boyfriend (who she’s never met, cos he’s an online relationship), and just generally whines about how much it sucks being a teenager, but makes excuses about how she can’t get better,

or

b) a person who watches this for months and eventually responds with one post, telling person ‘a’ that a million other people have worse problems than they have, providing a detailed paragraph of all the things they have going wrong (including depression, unemployment stress, a miscarriage, to mention a few), and that they should back off posting the same thing multiple times a day.

Which person would annoy you more? Person ‘a’, person ‘b’ or both? Why?

Answer #1

To me, Person A would annoy me more. Apart from the fact that they’re posting stuff unrelated to what the forum’s meant to be about (i.e. people didn’t sign up to that forum to hear about relationships), they’re getting bombarded with it three times a day. Someone’s going to finally snap and retort back like Person B, thats just natural and nothing wrong with it whatsoever in my opinion. Sure, its likely to raise a few heckles with others, but who cares what they think? Person A’s problem in the first place is that they care what others on the forum think, and their opinion. Well thats how I see it anyway.

At my work (a High School) there’s this girl who’s been dating the Head Boy (she’s referred to by some as “Anna Nicole Smith”) who’s been getting upset lately over the fact that her boyfriend is off to University in another city, and she’ll still be at school next year. She’s been unable to talk about anything else, and in class the other day one of her friends had had enough and turned round and told her to just grow up and deal with it already, then listed some of her issues. While the friend got a blasting from the girl, from what I hear most people agree with the friend, although they’re just not so vocal in saying so. So the whole Person A & Person B thing happens in real life too, not just online!

Dear lex_icon, I think you forgot #C: a person who is preoccupied with making others wrong. Both A & B are typical type of posters for a forum such as this. Not very often we get someone asking for advice if they feel their lives are great and couldn’t be better. It’s the person who reaches out for help not matter if it’s A or B style that is important. These people both are aware they have situations and both are strong enough to ask for help. So neither A or B are annoying. They are human beings looking for advice at some level. Sue…good luck

Answer #3

I think BOTH of the,m would be REALLY annoying. I can’t decide which is worse.
