How to get my parents to accept that I smoke?

Im 17 and have been smoking for the past 4 year’s. I have been aught a few times but the family thinks I have quit. Lately I’ve been thinking of telling my mother because its stressing me out. Too late for that she told me today that someone saw me smoking at the beach yesterday. I said yes I probably was she’s like are you proud im likee no I just don’t want to lie. I told her I think that’s hypocritical seeing her my father and brother all smoke. Anyways im expecting a lecture on it soon from them anything ideas on what I could say for them to just fkn accept it!

Dear ohdarling,

When you become a mother you will understand. A woman carries a child for 9 months feeding off her body. She worries that you may be born with a disorder, she worries that she isn’t eating the best for you etc. You are born healthy…whew…you are born her little girl. She again feeds you from her body, she makes sure you are healthy and happy. Then that little girl comes home and says…I am slowly killing myself with cigarettes. The mother remembers her baby she fretted about and fed from her body. How she cradled her from fear and kept her safe. The mother has failed. Her child will die. Sue…good luck

im scared to tell my mom to I think it might be easier if some one else tells her then when she asks me about it I can confess to it I think that may be easier then finding the right timeing to tell her I smoke

Answer #4

IWell, if you were my kid, I’d be very hard on smoking, however, I’m not a smoker, and because from what I understand, the majority of your family seem to be, which may alter the situation. Either way, you’re becoming close to ‘of age,’ so I think that if you’re going to tell them, then I think that now is the right time. Just make them aware that you smoke, but don’t reliese it on them so fast, by smoking in their sight ect. After you’ve brought it to their attention, you might want to smoke with the other members of your family that also smoke, they’ll get used to it that way.

Answer #5

tell them that you understand that they don’t want you to smoke and the reasons behind it. tell them that you are still a teenager that has not mentally and emotionally developed enough to be able to see how things will effect your body in the future. teenagers are still in the “it won’t ever happen to me” stage. Or just tell them that you look forward to breathing treatments and life in the hospital as you get older. Or be an adult about the situation and tell them that you understand how they feel and you need their help and support to quit and yelling or punishing isn’t going to calm the cravings.

Answer #6

just tell them the truth. I used to be a secret smoker but I got tired of it and told them that I smoke. yea they were crazy mad, lecturing me and all but they eventually they got bored and they except my habit now. so my point is…tell the truth, they’re only going to be mad for a li while but more importantly you won’t have to sneak outside or hide your smoking from them anymo
