Okay so I am just interested to read your stories of your experience with having your tongue pierced! good or bad!
I'm an avid fan of body mods. I got my tongue pierced maybe 6 years ago. When I first got it done, I went through the swelling (which is normal) and getting used to talking with it (it was weird having a piece of metal IN my mouth).
It healed normally, and it was supposedly an interesting twist to kissing. But I found that I developed a sort of absent minded habit where I would click the barbell on my teeth and bite it sometimes. That in combination with the frequent hitting just from talking, I went to the dentist and found out that habit was actually damaging my teeth, which is a problem that follows ANY oral piercing (tongue rings, lip rings, labrets, etc). Since I've always been really obsessed with having nice teeth I ended up taking it out. That and it's probably one of the worst piercings to have when working a job as a waiter, because you talk to people and they get distracted by "something shiny in your mouth".
You should know though, that there's a good chance that one of the balls on the barbell can come lose and be swallowed, or potentially induce choking. There's also a risk of cracked/broken teeth, or gum recession. If you decide to get the tongue ring, try and get a plastic ball to reduce any potential damage.
got mine pierced to impress a boyfriend (now is my ex) anyway...he really liked it...if ya know what I mean
