tapeworm in my dog

my dog has tapeworm. he has been on frontline & interceptor since he was a pup. I guess somehow he ingested a flea & got tapeworm. Anyway. his poop was tested at vet & they started him on drontol plus (spelling?) one pill that day, the second pill to be given three weeks later. It is now one & half weeks since giving first pill. I still see a ton of worms in his poop. I called the vet because I am worried & didn’t know if I should give him the second pill now or bring him in for an exam etc. The girl at the desk said it was normal but she didn’t sound to sure of herself. Can anyone confim that this is normal? I’m also worried that while he is still infected with this that my other dogs are going to get it and continue this nasty cycle. Please help!

Yes this is normal and give the second pill when you are supposed to, This is how we prescribe this med at the office I work at. If you kill all the worms at once the dog could become obstructed. And as Magic said you are taking care of different cycles the parasite is in also. Clean up the dogs poop and don’t walk other dogs in that area. Is your dog a hunter? if it eat rodents, birds or kills critters it could have picked it up that way also. YOU will NOT have to put your dog down due to worms. What your are seeing is the adult worms that are coming out. the part that looks like white rice is the worms shedding and that is only a very small portion of the worm

No dog is put to sleep for tapeworms. Listen to magichalo1. The medicine is getting the tapes out. If you didn’t see any-I’d be worried-because they have to come out, right? ;) your dog will be fine. It just takes a while. You only need to keep your dogs separate for using the bathroom, so my suggestion is to take your tapeworm dog on a leash in front or wherever the other dogs don’t go-and scoop all of his/her messes. Be patient. Good luck!

Interceptor does not take care of Tape worm. It does take care of many worms and is a good all round monthly wormer. The Drontol Plus is great and is working as it should. Of course you should see worms, they are dying. Yes, use it as directed by your Vet’s Office that is the correct way to use it.

What happens is you get rid of the first round of worms but there are still eggs that are hatching and you need the second round to completely get rid of the worms.

Worms are a fact of life in a dog. They pick them up in many places and things they eat.

well just keep that og away from the other dogs and just keep doing what the doc says then he/she should get better if not then you just mite have to put em down like to sleep sorry hun

Answer #5
