Should I move if I will be leaving my boyfriend?

I’m kind of stuck in a rotten situation right now. I have a choice between staying here in New York, or moving back to California this summer. I absolutely hate New York and the people in it, and I would love to move back to California… Only problem is that I would be moving further away from my boyfriend whom I love very much. As much as I hate the state, I would hate even more to be further from him. I only have until December to decide what I want to do so that my mom can make arrangements for me. What should I do?

Sounds like you have to have to make some tough decisions. I think you should look at all your options and ask yourself some of these questions.

Is there a possibility that your boyfriend moves to California with you? If you stay in NY will you be able to be happy there despite being far away from the place you love? Is there a that you can stay in NY for a limited time until you both can move to California? How long would you actually have to be apart? What exactly are you giving up by staying in NY and vice versa? How will either decision effect you and your relationship in the long run? What kind of sacrifices is your boyfriend making or is willing to make for your and the relationships sake?

Moving away from the people we love can be hard but sometimes it’s the right the decision not only for our own possible growth but also for our relationship to stay healthy. This being said, this type of decision is reversible so don’t let it stress you out too much. I know it’s hard but try to think about what would make you happiest because that is what will make your relationship happier in the long run.
