Can a clothing store tell when something has been stolen or is missing? How??
They can tell if something is missing when they conduct their inventory. Once they receive shipments of clothing in, they are scanned into the system, which keeps track of how many of each article the store should have.
Quantities are obviously deleted from their inventory when they are sold.
Every month or so, stores will do an inventory and check to see what is in the store by scanning each item. If the amount of things they SHOULD have don't match what they DO have, it's obvious that something is missing and most likely stolen.
Yep, a little thing called an inventory report. They won't know where's it gone, but they WILL know it is missing. And if you work there, you will probably be questioned.
