Stinky dogs

I constantly give my two dogs baths but they still stink minutes later…what can I do to stop them from stinking up the house?

Hi ashley, I breed Cocker Spaniels and sometimes if there is an unpleasant smell in Cockers, there may be ear trouble. The types of ear infections they get can be very smelly and the yeast infection they can get in their ears is the worst. Do they tip their head to one side or shake their heads a lot?? It is pretty easy to tell if something is going on in their ears. Lift one up and look inside. Is there a lot of brown goop? A foul smell when you lift the ear? If so take them to the vet, they need medication. They also need regular ear care. I use a powder called Wonder Ear once a week in my 8 and never have an issue. If the ears are not the cause, do you have them groomed? Cockers are one of the breeds that have fur more like people hair. It grows and need to be cut. If the ears are not the issue, try shaving them down and see if that helps. When the fur is long in their feet, they can pick up all kinds of icky smells in the fur between their pads.

I think I’d leave the anal gland squeezing to the professionals (breeders, vets, groomers)…if one is impacted, you could cause it to rupture…There is also the chance of infection…no fun for owner or doggie!!

You should squeeze their anal glands…and that’s exactly what I mean- squeeze their anuses like you would a pimple.

I suggest rubber gloves and safety goggles

Answer #4

I find my dogs have a smell when their fur is wet? After if dries they smell like what ever I bathed them with. They do smell of wet fur until dry.

What are you bathing them in?

Answer #5

If they “stink” even right after they’ve been bathed and dried, it either means they have doggie oder (from the anal glands)…and some dogs DO have way more doggie oder than others…or it could possibly be the food you feed. Make sure that the first two ingredients on the bag are meat sourced ingredients…

You might just simply be sensitive to what even the nicest dogs smell like.

if it is there fur try rubbing them down with a bounce fabric softener sheet, I got this in an email once.

Maybe their mouths are stinking? Try to narrow down where the smell is coming from…
