Can you speak or type in English?

I can speak and type in English and it’s very easy because I’m not illiterate. English is my second language and I prefer it over my native language. But my mom can’t speak English very well and has an African accent. She also doesn’t know how to use the computer or type and I’m actually surprised because a lot of people on the internet can understand English. I always listen to English songs and it makes my English level increase. Whenever I type, I proofread and edit my Questions before I post them up.

The US has no official language. English is the de facto language in the US because more Americans speak it than any other language. About half of the states have English as the only official language. While English is the most common, within the US there are enclaves of ethnic groups where other languages are predominant. With the large amount of travel and international communication it is probably only a matter of time before our languages mix together and become a single world language. I expect it to take a few centuries for this to happen.
