Spay the cat

I would like to my cat to get spay, she just had three kittens two week ago. when could I get my cat spay?

Answer #1

you can get your cat spayed even while she is nursing, they will still produce milk, yes it is not ideal and it is more invasive. But it has been done, I work at a vet hospital and we have had to give dogs and cats c-section to get there babies out. while we are in there some owners will choose to have the dog or cat spayed at that time and she can still nurse afterwards. My chihuahua had a c-section and was nursing right away, I did not choose to get her spayed. But if you can wait then I would wait, or discuss it with your vet.

Answer #2

She’s just given birth…at least give her until the kittens are old enough to stop nursing - 6 weeks.

Answer #3

At least 6 weeks, depending on the kittens. At 8 weeks, definitely, otherwise you may run the risk of ocotcat!

Answer #4

Yes, you need to wait “atleast” 6 weeks, 8 to be sure. She just gave birth and it’s very important that she is able to nurse her kittens right now so you can not spay her just yet. Make sure you keep her away from any male cats for the next 8 weeks also to make sure she does not end up pregnant again.

Answer #5

I typed your whole question into Google…and found this:

How long after having kittens can she be spayed?

The mammary (breast) development that comes with nursing can make the spay surgery more difficult. Ideally, a month after weaning allows for regression of this tissue and spaying can proceed. Unfortunately, it is possible for a female cat to become pregnant during this waiting period if her owner is not careful.

How long after my female cat/dog has had kittens/puppies can I get her spayed?

Mother cats or dogs can become pregnant while nursing. It is important to keep a nursing mother away from other adult cats/dogs of the opposite sex. One can spay a mother as soon as the kittens or pups are weaned, (5 to 6 weeks for kittens and 4 to 5 weeks for puppies) and because of the risk of pregnancy this should be done.
