Easily the best recording with some truly fantastic drumming is the song “Sing, Sing, Sing”, written by Mr. Louis Prima, and performed by Mr. Benny Goodman and his Orchestra. This “song” lasts 8’42” and was recorded in Hollywood (Ca.) on the 6th of July 1937.
Mr. Gene Krupa’s drumming has to be heard to be believed! He was the greatest. A television network–7two/Prime 2–showed the film “The Gene Krupa” story just last week. The film was pretty awful, but it was worth seeing just for the acting of tthe lead, Sal Mineo.
This recording can be found on numerous C.D. compilations, but the best reproduction (from the original 78 r.p.m. shellac record) can be heard upon an Australian Lp “The Great Bands in Digital Stereo - Vol.IV” (released in 1984). I just played this recording–it was marvellous!
