Am I wasting my time with him?

I have known this kid for ever (Steven)…and we became best friends a year ago. I was always with him, and we always hung out. We got pulled apart when Lanay got in the middle of us. We no longer talked, never even looked at each other. This year, he is in none of my classes. Just recently, he started talking to me. One day walking home, he asked me why I never talked to him anymore…I told him he never talks to me either.
