Where would I go to get a skateboard?

You should go to a skate shop if you are serious about it. Cheap boards like ones from department stores break very easily and can leave you seriously hurt. They also have crappy bearings and wheels making it very hard to actually do anything or learn on them. They are more for 8 year olds sorta thing. Proper boards are a bit more expensive, but can be cheaper if you buy a second hand one off ebay. Secondhand boards are fine as long as they aren’t cheaper brands, a good skateboard can last 50+ years if looked after.

Honestly, dont buy a walmart one or some off brand, because you will end up destroying it, the deck isnt made with the right warp, the bearings get messed up fast, the trucks are stock and the wheels are usually not of good quality. For a good starter deck check CCS. They have build your owns and completes. They get a little pricey if you do the build your own, but its worth it because it will last and it will be a true deck.

So how more expensive are we talking about?

Martini for nice boards

West 49 have really nice ones and they usually have a wide selection of boards. i’d suggest not buying one from from Walmart or Zellers etc, its likely to be a cheap brand and probably break on you. But i guess you could buy one from there if you were just starting out with skateboarding, if it breaks, it breaks. keep practicing, and move up to a better quality board :D

Local skate shop. There are usually a ton at the mall! They’re good and you can pick all the materials that suit you, but they are very expensive. At least $100 for the good ones, so if you’re a beginner, try starting out with a cheaper one. Trust me, I used to skate and I bought a super expensive one. Then I got tired of it. -_-
