Scared that I will fail to get into med school. Help!!!

This is going to sound a bit pathetic but, I have always wanted to be a Doctor, I am not go into why, but it is always been my biggest ambition. Well in Britain anyway, there is soooo much competition and you need to be soooooooooo good to get in. I know I have a good shot at making it, but if I fail I will be devastated. I really want to make my parents proud of me as well as I owe so much, if not all, of what I have achieved to them. Is there anyone out there with any advice on what it is like to fail at something so important to you? Did you mange to get over it and be happy with what you are?

I am a big failure to myself, and to others. I know exactly how it feels to fail at something big. I can tell you, that the feeling to fail at something important is horrible, but also can say that for me, I had to face the fact that nothing is certain and that I would have another chance to do something that was important to me. I failed every bit of my education, because guess what, I had absolutely none! This has ruined me bad because I am unable to get a job, but slowly I am putting things together and looking at the positive side, that life is about accepting your failures, as well as your successes. We all learn from experiences, and it just helps us get better. If you fail, remember, it’s NEVER the end and there will be another chance for success down the road.

Alright.

First of all, mate, if making your parents proud is your greatest ambition for getting into medschool…you shouldn’t be applying at all. Most medschool students are an average age of 24 when they apply, and spend around 4 years until matriculation. After that you spend 3 - 7 more years specializing.

Know WHY you want to be a doctor before you even attempt. It’s a long, hard road, mate.
