Who knows anything on Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton?

Answer #1

This is a prime example of something that anyone can find immediately without asking others to “reinvent the wheel”:

Answer #2

Sending people to other websites to find the information isnt exactly the point of this site…

Answer #3

Maybe not, but neither is it the point of the website to ask for things that are immediately more readily available elsewhere.

More relevant than what ISN’T the point (as you have been quick to tell me) is a reminder of what IS the point of this site, and I am sure you don’t need me to remind you that it is to:

Enable individuals to get advice on any issue, so long as it’s a positive one.

and my advice was positive and direct in telling her how to obtain the information she was seeking. Furthermore, I was able to provide that advice before you or anyone else did it to their own (or indeed your) satisfaction.

She was born August 28,1774 to Richard Bayley and Catherine Charlton, and she died January 4, 1821. She was the first native born citizen of the US to be canonized by the Roman Catholic church. When she was nineteen years old she married a man named William Magee Seton, and they have five kids, Anna Maria, William, Richard, Catherine, and Rebecca. At one point the family went bankrupt and her husband, William became sick so he was sent to Italy because of the warmer climate, and Elizabeth and the oldest daughter went with him. Sometime later her husband died. She went and spent some time with a wealthy family and learned about Catholicism. Two years later she moved back to the US and converted to Roman Catholicism on March 14, 1805. She still had to support her children so she started a hospital, but it was unsuccessful due to the anti-Catholic sentiment of the day. In 1809 she moved to Emmitsburg, Maryland. A year later she established the St. Josephs Academy and Free school, a school dedicated to the education of catholic girls. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 46 in 1821 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
