Right size horse?

I am about to buy a horse. I am 5ft 6ins tall, female, a beginner and and dont want to compete. I weigh 10 stone. Many thanks

I agree with 15 hands. I’m only 5’1”in, but 15 hands is what I call the middle of “average” size for horses.

Don’t of course skip getting the perfect horse because it’s 15.3…you’re tall enough to not have to negotiate mounting with the 3 extra inches. In other words, as a beginner, how tall the horse is, should be close to the bottom of your list of criteria.

since your on the taller side for a girl I would suggest a horse around 15 hands. give or take a couple inches though. Whats more important then size is how trained the horse is. Since your a beginner you really don’t wanna go out and buy any old horse because an untrained one can be to much to handle and either hurt you or will hurt your confidence and make you to afraid to ride it. I also suggest you take riding lessons if you can afford it because they will make you a much better rider in the long run. if you have any more horse related question feel free to fun mail me.
