How can I repair a dead motherboard?

I accidenatlly spilled some water on my laptop the other day and left it to dry for a few days. It then used to switch on fine but whenever I’d plug in the charger it would turn right off. Now, it wont even switch on and I think the mother board is fried. I have very important files on that computer. Any ideas on how to fix the motherboard or at least get the files out?

might be a problem, once the motherboard is fried it is friend as my exhusband would say!

what you may be able to do though is what we like to call data recovery! if you have all the data/files backed up on your hard drive then it can be recovered unless something happened to it as well…then might not be possible! what they would have to do is connect the HD and run smth on it…i wont get into specifics…just take into consideration that it can be pricey to do this…and you must weigh if that info is as crucial as the cost of retrieving it for ya!

my best advice is talk to your tech guy/people…have them look at it…give you an estimate…and see if it can even be retrieved…if so…is the price really worth it…

good luck to you friend…:)

i meant once it is fried then it is fried…:P

Answer #3

The files aren’t on your motherboard - they’re in your hard drive. Just change the motherboard.

Answer #4

Might cost you a bit, but either take the hard drive out, or take the whole laptop into a computer repair store. Ask them if they can recover the data off the laptop hard drive. Most places should be able to, as long as they have the right adapter to plug the laptop hard drive in with.

Answer #5

on a laptop that is much easier said than done. In fact I’m not even sure if you can buy just a laptop mobo. One time I looked at building my own laptop the shell, mobo & screen came as one item.

when my brother smashed his laptop screen he chucked it out. but before the dust bin men came round i stripped it and sold the parts on ebay. ive still got the cpu and memory. yes you can change a laptop mobo. its just a hell of a lot more screws that a pc. laptops have different inards as in the plastic supports are in different places depending on teh manufacturer. how do i know this… ive stripped a few. so in short [i hate repeating myself ha] you can change it just make sure the new 1 you buy fits. if possible ring the manufacturer and ask them if they sell them and if they do ask if they will sell you 1. or and this might be the better option. take teh hdd out and transfer the files onto your pc. it literally is just a usb cable and a usb enclosure. so all you do is put your hdd into teh enclosure and connect 1 end of the usb cable into the enclosure and the other end into the pcs usb port
