Do real emos tell everyone they're emo?

What is an emo? May I ask

Emo is a genre of music. People who self harm are not ‘emo’. In fact, being called emo is offensive to most who actually do. So don’t do it.

When it comes to whether or not they tell, no. Most don’t. A lot of people are ashamed that they self harm, and they don’t want others knowing that they’re going through a struggle. If someone shows you, it means they trust you. If some random person tells you, it’s either because they’ve recovered and want to share their struggle, or because they’re dumb and want to flaunt it. Most don’t flaunt it, though..

I don’t mean to be offensive, but it seems like you’re trying to put a label on it. As others said, “emo” is a type of music that turned into a subculture of people who dress a certain way and listen to a certain type of music. People who cut themselves are called self harmers. Not all “emos” self harm, and not all people who self harm are emo.
