R word

ok you no how all this stuff about the are word (retarded) is coming about I was just wondering what you think of it and if your planing to stop saying it or continue to not say it

just to let you no im 100% against it

Answer #1

I use the word retard… but I don’t misuse it. I don’t call people with mental or physical disablities retards or anything like that.

Answer #2

I actually went to this like state thing, where I interviewed peopl on this topic, and out of the 100 people I interviewed, onle ONE person said we shouldnt ban it. As for me im totally against the usage of the word when out of context. I HATE when people say “thats retarded” or “What a retard” I NEVER EVER say it and when my friends say it I ask them not too, I am totally 100000% against misusing this word, I get offended my it. I volunteer at my school to help the mentally/physically disabled kids, and when people use the “R” word to mean like “stupid” or “dumb” I get mad, because those kids are NOT stupid or dumb. and my aunt is mentally disabled and so it hits home with me. and I just would like to ask that people make it a goal to stop using it out of context, it really does offend people.

Answer #3

it is just said in jest even though it is totally insensitive, its just not that nice and some people choose not to use it like the word cn is very offensive. my friends sister died from illness related to her down syndrome and my boyf brother has it and they both say retard as it is just an expression. I just dont think its the best of words but I dont get offended if someone else says it.

Answer #4

I describe a person as a retard when they’re being an inconsiderate jerk. I also use the word retard as it is defined; slow. There are some people who are retarded because they are slow at LEARNING. I do not use it to describe something that is stupid, because that is inappropriate use of the word.

Answer #5

I use the word retard if it’s in the context of something being slow or hindered (such as, adding cold water to a pot of boiling pasta will retard it’s cooking time).

That’s what the word means, after all.

I never use it to describe a person.

Answer #6

well I mean I never actually call a person with a disability a retard but I mean I ocasionally use it to describe an event or something I have to do that I dont like.. but not at people..
