Well your relationship and your friendship are two separate things (depending on what his actions have been). If he has cheated on you, been abusive or has simply displayed bad boyfriend attributes which double as bad friendship attributes, then no, nobody would expect you to want to be his friend. However, if he has dumped you simply because the two of you do not function as a couple, then of course the two of you can be friends. To not like someone because they broke up with you can be a bit childish/ selfish seeing as if you’re not the right one for him, then you can’t expect him to stay with you. You can be friends, but if he has done anything bad things to you or has been a bad guy towards you, then I would advise against it.
