Answer #2

1.) Are you ever under stress due to school (school-induced stress)? A) Always 2.) Do you think that teachers understand what you are goign through? C) Never 3.) Do you think that you parent(s) or guardian(s) understand what you are going through? B) Sometimes 4.) How often do you complain about this stress to anyone? B) Sometimes 5.) In general, do you think that your peers experience the same amount of stress that you do? A) Yes, I think that we experience the same amount of stress. 6.) What do you think plays the largest role in this type of stress? ( This one is not multiple choice, I want your opinion.) The fact that parents expect us to do well, and trying to impress them all the time. The teachers also make us sound like we are going to be complete failures in life if we don’t do perfect on everything. 7.) When, during the school day, do you feel the most stressful and why? Walking into school because I am freaking out about not doing homework and my relationships with friends and how other people see me. Also while teachers are assigning homework and projects (especially essays) because it seems that whenever teachers assign a lot of homework, all the other teachers do on the same day. 8.) In most middle school, the students have various classes and usually have homework in almost, if not, all of them. Do you think that the teachers ( and the Board of Education) are aware of the conbined stress that they are causing their students? Yes or No. Explain. Adolescence (spelling?) is a fragile time in developement and it changes a person forever no matter what happens. 10.) Do you know anyone personally or from someone else who has suffered or is suffering from extreme stress due to school? Explain. Yes, one of my friends actually came close to suicide because she said that her parents were dissappointed with how she was doing in school when she was trying her hardest.

  6. There are several things like going to school for 6 hours a day with tests etc and then coming home for another 2 hours of homework. The pressure of getting good marks to get into post secondary. Peer pressure/self estem you already doubt yourself but know you have to already deal with what other kids think about you. Participating in school sports people expecting way to much.
  7. At the end of the day knowing I get to go home to about 2 hours of homework after about 1 1/2 of school sports then get up and do it all again the next day. 8.no, most teachers do not realize that some students are taking 4 core classes (english, math, social, science) when there is 4 classes a day. It gets overwhemling and most teachers don’t take this into consideration because they only care about their jobs and teaching us. I don’t even think most care they just think we are over exgraterating how much homework they give us when really it’s the exact oppistie.
  8. yes, I think it can cause anxiety attacks later on in life with dead lines etc but bad mental health
  9. Yeah, I feel that way a lot of the time. I go to school at 8:25 have 4 classes no spares and my classes are biology 30( grade 12 course), physic 20, english 20, and Math 30 pure. After spending a hour and a half in each class I have about 45min-1hour of homework for each subject. Then I go to play Rugby(school sport) for about 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours after school, go home and do homework and go to sleep. I can barely manage to keep a job because of my heavy course load. Also in Alberta we have dipolma exams which means all 30 courses final exams are 50% worth are final grade. We are the only province in Canada who does this and it is so stressful thinking our final exam is worth 50% for grade 12 and those marks are sent to post secondary schools. This does not include all the stress from friends and family and work it’s crazy.

Oh yeah I’m female hope this helps

  6. Exams, homework, getting good grades (my parents pressure me wayy too much bout this :L) and having teachers yell at the class for not getting good enough grades.
  7. Depends on the situation - what lesson I have, whether I’ve done homework or not, etc
  8. No I don’t think they are aware of this because if they were aware of it they would not giveus so much homework. And on top of exam stress, sometimes it gets too much, like you’ll have homework for one lesson but revision for an exam in another.
  9. I think it depends on the person and how well you deal with stress because if you al with stress well then its not gonna cause problems, but if you cant deal with stress thenit might cause problems.
  10. No I dont know anyone who has suffered this stress extremely and if I have then they havnt told me.

  6. My parents pressure me a lot to get all A’s and it get really hard I only have two As and one C and I do homework for about four hours every nite my parents want to to grad with academic honors and its really hard plus I am in color guard with the school which takes up 60% of my life then I love dance to death so I have to go to my classes it all just adds up.
  7. morning it feels like my day will never end
  8. NO! I dont think they realize how much it all adds up I think they think they are doing good by giving us lots of hw so that we understand in it and succeed but I dont think they fully understand the stress, I think they forgot how hard it was.
  9. yes completly, I think pressure from parents about school and an overwhelming amount of work could push even the most normal teen to sucide.
  10. not personally but I think every person who actually cares about school feels the stress and oh I think that teachers never give students enough time to learn the subjects and dont reveiw enough for tests because if they give you two days to learn a chapter and just tell you to study out of your book you will probably fail school blows

Female, sophomore.

  1. A. Always

  2. B. Sometimes.

  3. C. Never.

  4. C. Never.

  5. A. Yes, I think that we experience the same amount of stress.

  6. Parents play a large role in this. They always tell us we can do better. My mom is always telling me to try harder. But how do you do that when you are trying your hardest. The amount of homework does too. The teacher says, “This should take you five minutes.” But then you end up spending an hour on it because they didn’t go over the material enough in class. If you add that up with 2-3 classes. Yeah. That’s a lot of homework. Especially when you get a ton and a half of homework 4 nights out of 5.

  7. Right at the end of the day. I’m not only worried about stuff at home but about stuff with school. “Oh crap, I have to make up a quiz.” “I have way too much homework.” or even “I have to stay after, but I have too much homework to do.” During the day can be bad too, but at the end of the day it’s all been piled up so it’s just overwhelmin

  8. No, of course they aren’t aware. They are the teachers, they know all the material. so most of them automatically assume we do too. So they give us tons of homework to help us practice. Then most kids end up staring at the ook or worksheet for an hour not knowing what to do. Some teachers end up realizing what we go through though. I have had a few teachers who have said, “I understand all the stress and pressure you guys deal with. I don’t want to add too much to that. So I’m not going to give you an hour’s worth of homework everynight.” And then they follow through with it.

  9. Yes. A lot of stress can cause a lot of problems. When stress piles up it can cause many physical problems as well as mental problems. It all really depends on your stress tolerance. If you can handle stress well, you most likely won’t suffer these issues. On the other hand, if you can’t handle it very well, you will. Sometimes stress can get so bad you want to get away from everything. Or you can go into depression or something. I’m sure some of the suicides in the world are stress-realated. They just couldn’t handle everything that they were supposed to. I can’t handle stress well at all. Which is probably causing some of my current problems.

  10. I certainly do. I don’t get good grades. It’s not that I’m lazy or don’t care. I do care. I’m just not good at school. But my parents and teachers are always comparing me to my brother, who got A’s and B’s. I’ll never be as good as him. This adds a lot more stress. I brought home a report card with 2 A’s, 2 B’s and a D. My momlooked at me and said, “You better bring that D up. You’re not trying hard enough.” I looked at her and said, “There are two A’s and 2 B’s there. What about those grades? Do they even matter to you? Where’s my “good job!” or my “way to go!”?” I made honorable mention. The first time ever! She said, “But you could make honor roll if you tried harder. Obviously you aren’t trying hard enough.” Yeah, I think this has caused me emotional problems. I think it may be one reason I cut myself. ‘Cause it seems like I do it when I’m really stressed out or depressed.

Sorry I wrote a novel here. :) I hope I helped.

Answer #10

1.Always 2.Never 3.Sometimes 4.Always 5.Yes, We experience the same amout of stress 6.Well I would have to say our teachers, they always think we have time to do 30 min. of homework for their class. Thats not so bad. Except for we all have more than one class with 30 min. of homework for each class. With 7 classes each day that’s about 4 hrs. of Homework!! 7.When teachers assign homework, they think its just practice but why do we get graded on practice??? 8.Absolutely not. They don’t really care in my opinion. They just want us to do well on State Assesments and other big tests, so they get paid. 9.Yes, some people can’t handle all of the stress that is put on students shoulders. I know I get overwhelmed now and Im only a sophomore. 10.Not suicidal (spelling?) but Washburn Rural has very high standards so im pretty sure many students are extremely overwhelmed.

Im female…I hope this helped you too
