Question about birth control...?

So I want to go on birth control, not because I’m having sex but because of the effects it has. I heard birth control makes your period lighter, clears your skin, makes your period regular. Well I don’t if these are true. But anyway I’m 15 and I don’t know if this is the right desison…

Answer #2

I say get on it. It won’t hurt anything and that way you will be prepared when you do decide to start having sex.

Birth control can give you shorter lighter periods, regulate your periods, clear up your skin (in some cases, and protect you from a pregnancy 98 percent.

Yep all of the above are true. I think you should go for it your not gunna lose anything for trying.

Going on birth control at a young age at 15 is definitely a better idea than waiting until you’re in your mid-twenties (like certain idiots who had to learn the hard way… heh) because of the hormones. Younger bodies are better able to handle the introduction of additional hormones. But yes, birth control will regulate your period (although at 15 you just might not be getting regular periods yet, it can take a few years), it does make it lighter, and it does clear your skin. You just have to make sure you are on the right kind of birth control FOR YOU. Since you’re young, I’d start with the pill - Yaz, specifically, because it has an effective yet low-dose of hormones in it, is not a combination oral contraceptive and will be less “invasive” in your system when you start taking it. If you don’t like the pills, the NuvaRing would be my second recommendation - once again, low dose of hormones and nothing goes through your digestive track so there’s not nausea when you first start taking it like there is with a lot of the pills out there. You are WAY TOO YOUNG to be even considering getting something like Mirena (an IUD - which is what I use, but there’s a good reason), at your age an IUD can bruise your fallopian tubes and prevent you from ever being able to get pregnant. So… I decided not to go on birth control until I was in a committed relationship, which happened when I was about 19 or 20 years old (I ended up marrying this man). I tried the pills, but at my age to additional hormones were too powerful and they were literally making me nuts. The combination oral contraceptives made me feel like my heart was going to beat out of my chest which I felt like I was going to pass out at the same time, they made me irrational and after 6 months the nausea that you’re only supposed to have the first 30 days (max) on any oral contraceptive just kept getting worse. So, my doctor gave me the NuvaRing. I dealt a lot better with the hormones because it is a low dose of hormones - still made me a little nuts at first but after the first month I was fine (and no nausea!!!) - but the problem with the NuvaRing is that it’s a “one size fits all deal” and it really shouldn’t be! I am 5’3” and 94 pounds - I’m a small person - and the thing was just freaking painful. It kept falling out, I could constantly feel it although you aren’t supposed to be able to feel it at all, and it just plain sucked. I’m sure if you are maybe a bit bigger of a person (more so taller) it will work better for you. I’ve had friends who absolutely love it and swear by it, but the smaller of my friends who are more like me feel the same way about it. So, what I ended up on was Mirena, which is an IUD put in place by your doctor that’s a combination hormonal contraceptive and barrier method contraceptive and only needs to be replaced every 5 years. It’s great… 5 years and you don’t have to worry about it. It’s recommended to people who have had kids because of the vaginal stretching that’s involved in the insertion, but my doctor told me that if you’ve had enough sex you’re good for Mirena… and heh, I’m not exactly easy or anything, but I had a good amount of sex and it’s fine - hurts like hell for about 10 seconds and then you can’t feel a thing. I love the low hormonal dosage, I love the lack of nausea, I love how I don’t even have to think about it for another 4 and a half years and THEY CALL YOU about 2 months ahead of time to either have it removed or changed (which you can have done at any point before the 5 years is up, if you choose), and I also love that - heh, gotta reiterate this because it’s my FAVORITE freaking part - there’s nothing to remember for 5 years!

Heh, sorry if I went a little overboard there - due to many issues I’ve had, I seem to know A LOT about birth control and have been on virtually every single variety of it known to man. I’ve been struggling with birth control for years and was REALLY pissed off after I got married and still had to use a condom - not for STDs but because I’m not ready to have a baby yet, I’m 25 - got married at 24… not planning on starting a family for another 10 years or so - and yeah… using a condom with your husband just ISN’T right. Best thing was the Today sponge which has, once again, been taken off the market. Man, if they’d just sell that product to a company who wasn’t about to go out of business it would be great… it doesn’t do well because people don’t read the directions and USE IT CORRECTLY, but before Mirena, honestly, the sponge was the best thing ever! But… that won’t do anything for your skin, periods, or cramping… LOL… it’ll just keep you from getting pregnant ;)

Answer #5

birth control reacts differently to different people..my friend gained 30 pounds for being on birth control..and when I first got on it broke up my skin…but it could also clear up your skin

Answer #6

I say go for it. it can deffinatly help. (it can make it lighter, more predictable, and less painful[lol]). the main side affect I know of is gaining weight. not everyone does though.
