What's a good quality steel stringed guitar I can buy if I'm a beginner?

ashton are always a good quality beginner brand, and they are pretty cheap. Though you can always get cheaper ‘un-known’ brands that are just as good. Roughly for about $300AU (australian) you can get a good beginner one. Just go to a store and ask them for like a deal or tell them your a beginner. but you WILL need to make sure that you also get a guitar tuner, spare strings, strap, picks and a case. Cases (good quality hard cases) are about $100, extras you could probably get it all for $50 ish. but if you get a deal (between $300-400) you can get it ALL in one pack. They are good, but beginner. with a deal though make sure its a known brand or is recommended by the guy at the store. Most giutar’s are good quality, its just the book/teacher your learning from that needs to be good quality :)

ok i was loking to stay in the 100 range, but would that not get me any good guitars? and what if i got it off of craigslist, just i still tried it out?

Well maybe, it all depends. You might get a second hand one. But trust me the more you spend the better it is :) just try shopping around
