What to feed Chihuahua puppies?

what do I feed my chihuahua puppies? they are 5 weeks old…when do they get their 1st shots

Answer #1

Hasn’t killed any of them yet. They are beautiful puppies. They protein is high. They didn’t have a recall.

Actually our Vet that also raises Champion Boxers, told us to keep the Boxers on it until they are 2 years of age and to put the Mom’s on it when the are bred.

We have healthy pups, great temperaments and wonderful personalities

Answer #2

They should be getting their first shots soon…

AND they should be starting on puppy food, mixed with water into a mash…It’s messy, but they need it.

They do have teeth at this age, tho (that’s one of the reason’s mom starts getting tired of them…owie)…just not very big teeth…so mash until their ready to go…

so sorry but how can anyone feed their puppy “purina puppy chow” ??? have you read the ingredients???

Answer #4

PLEASE!!! put the Chihuahua puppies back with their mother! They are way too young to even be thinking about taking them away from her! Chihuahua puppies are different from the larger breed puppies, they require much more care and need to be with momma at the least until they are 10 weeks old. So PLEASE, PLEASE put them back with their mother…they need her and she needs them as well. This is VERY IMPORTANT if you want them puppies to be healthy and strong. Thank You.

How many puppies do you have? Two maybe. I would measure out their food according to the Puppy food package and manage their food intake. Pick up the bowl when they are done.

Always Always lots of water. If you haven’t given them a taste of it yet. The first time you put water down they are not sure what to make of it. Stick your finger in the water and let the lick your finger and lead them to the water to drink. They will get the hang of it.

I start feeding my puppies Purina Puppy chow now, meaning 5 weeks and start to wean them because 6 weeks is just around the corner. I do wet my food and make it soft for awhile. I do this up until the are about 7 to 8 weeks old. I would especially as small as yours are.

Be ready with a little Baby Gas relief drops the first time you feed them. Just give your puppies a drop since they are so small.

I don’t like the Purnia Puppy chow with the colored kibble, the red dye makes their poop red and you can’t tell if they might have worms or something. I don’t like to use anything that changes the natural color of their poop. I use the tiny brown kibble in the Purina Puppy chow. I also think the other gives them the runs.

Now about the runs, if they get this, meaning their poop is not soild give them a tiny drop of Kaopectate every six hours for 24 to 36 hours until it clears up. Only use this brand or the genric form of it, it is the only one safe for a puppy. Or the Mom nursing for that matter. Do not let them get the runs, this is important. All puppies get them sometimes but you don’t want something as small as a puppy getting dehydrated. If they have the runs long give them drops of Baby Pediolite (sp) and lots of water to drink.

Ok I may have given you a little too much information, put I believe all of it is important to know when you have puppies.

Shots 6 weeks and then 9 etc. Make sure you ask for a medical booklet to keep track of the medical history, Take it to the vet everytime you go, so that they can update it. Send it with your puppies to their new forever homes.

Ok class over

Answer #6

Mothers milk or canned milk for puppies…You can introduce canned puppy food but dont just feed puupy food.

Answer #7

thesarah is giving really, really wrong information.

Puppies should be drinking their mother’s milk until about 6 weeks of age. At that point, begin to wean them off using puppy food (not adult dog food–puppy kibble. It is higher in fat, which puppies need). At the animal shelter where I work on weekends, we feed puppies Purina Puppy Chow from 6 weeks to 1 year of age.

They can get their first set of shots at 6 weeks, except for rabies, which they cannot get until 4 months of age.

Hope that helps.

Answer #8

Yes, like editor said.. puppies should be fed their mothers milk until 6 weeks then you can wean them to using puppy food. I actually wet my puppies food down a little bit so it wouldn’t be as hard then after a couple of weeks I would just let them eat it dry. Make sure not to give them too much food, trust me.. if you put down a lot of food they will try to eat every bit of it and it will make their tummy hurt =)

Answer #9

ok so about there shots they should get them now at 6 weeks. why ??because there not eating from there mothers milk and so there immune sytem has no chance of fiighting viruses ect. and so the sonner the better and for the feeding try putting some puppy food in a there bowl and add some warm water live it for a little bit take the water all out when you see the dry food being really soft for them to eat since they have no teeth and also continue feeding them milk not milk that we drink but milk specially made for puppies.

hope I helped and good luck!! :)

need more help let me know!! :) :)

These puppies are way too young, to have been taken away from their mother and siblings. They should still be nursing from their mom, and at the same time being weaned. Most breeds should stay with the mother until they are at least 8 weeks old. Chihuahuas and Toy Breeds however, should never leave the mother until they are at least 10-12 weeks old. Small breeds learn different social skills and behaviors, from their mom and siblings, so they can have better temperaments when they grow older. My suggestion is to please take these puppies back to their mom, and brothers and sisters, and leave them there, for another 5-7 weeks. This is the most crucial time for this puppy, and if you want a happy, healthy, good tempered puppy, then you really need to return these puppies, until they old enough to come home with you. I know you must be excited and I don’t blame you, but if you want the best for them, then that’s what you will do. It will be worth it in the long run, trust me! I breed Chihuahuas and I have #13 Chihuahuas of my own! I never adopted any of my babies out before 12 weeks old.
