Protein is a source of calories and will make you gain weight. But if you eat only enough and exercise it will be used for muscle gain and so on. Otherwise it has no relation to weight loss. Atkins diets work by screwing with your metabolism by making you reliant on protein as your only source of calories, without any carbs. Whether or not this is healthy is a different discussion. Regardless, simply eating a bit more protein without making the full shift won't do jack squat for weight loss.
Protein builds muscle and provides energy. That is what causes the weight gain. However to much protein can cause disease such as arthritis, because protein sucks calcium from your body, so if you eat a lot of meat, make sure you also get in enough calcium

yeah see that's what i thought. but some people apparently randomly drink protein shakes in the morning to lose weight ..
