What do you think about pregnant women who have a glass of red wine a day?

Doctors used to recommend a glass of red wine a day to pregnant women to relax and because the antioxidants were good for the pregnancy…but it seems kind of stupid when there are so many other non-alcoholic beverages that can give you the same antioxidants as wine.

Answer #1

i remember getting told Guiness was good for pregnant women coz of the iron in it.

Answer #2

I heard its good for them like health wise but I wouldn’t wanna risk anything happening to my baby.

Answer #3

Well doctors didnt know was FAS was. Any amount of alcohol is a risk. And it is stupid to take a risk.

Answer #4

it is fine in small amounts.

Answer #5

There was a recent study that showed small amounts of alcohol will not harm the baby, but I dont think anyone should risk it, because you cant know how much is too much. This study was mostly to give mothers some reassurance when they had consumed small amounts of alcohol before discovering they were pregnant and not to say go ahead and drink during pregnancy. The risks of alcohol in pregnancy most definately outweight any benefit there may be.

Answer #6

No honestly I dont think any alcohol is good during pregnancy, as ty said there are MANY other things that can give you antioxidants. Any form of alcohol while pregnant is stupid in my opinion.

Answer #7

No point in risking it. There are a lot of other healthy drinks, such as green tea, berry tea etc that does not contain alcohol and contains a lot of anti oxidents. Alcohol just isn’t worth taking during pregnancy.

Answer #8

I agree with most people here. Although drinking a very small amount during pregnancy may not be dangerous to the baby…one glass a day adds up, and in my opinion, one glass a day is not a small amount. There is no reason a woman should be drinking a glass of wine a day when pregnant, other than to satisfy her own want or need. I believe it is somewhat selfish, and quite ignorant. Like Danielle said, the risks of alcohol in pregnancy outweigh any benefits there may be. I would never drink alcohol if I knew, or suspected that I was pregnant. I would not want to risk harming my baby. If you want a nice drink, try virgin drinks.

Answer #9

Also, like others have said, there are plenty of other beverages and foods that you can get antioxidants from. That is a stupid excuse to drink while pregnant.

Answer #10

Why take a risk, theres many other things that could cheer someone up. I personally wouldnt do it myself I think it is wrong wether it makes you happy or not is no excuse.

Answer #11

Don’t suggest women who are pregnant smoke, drink, do recreational dru*gs, or take medications that have even a remote chance of causing problems for the child.

There are so many variables that we have ZERO control over, regarding how children turn out. The above are some areas wherein some control can be exercised.
