How can I be polite with an ex-employee, when I don't want to be and have already been harsh on the phone?

There’s an employee who left after doing slight financial harm to the company 4 years back. He had good terms with the CEO though. During his time he always was very nosy and the CEO always had a soft spot for him, but I never did. That ex employee even invited him to his wedding a few months back where he sent someone to fill his spot. I am a sincere person to the company and the CEO and although I don’t like to hurt his feelings but he called today on the CEO’s cell and I don’t like such behavior. I kept ignoring him since he left but I think he never got the message so today I harshly told him not to call again as it was only disturbing and there is no point in calling now, bottom line, I told him to ‘Leave us alone’ and do what you’re doing these days, and he is upset and is hurt. Someone please tell me what should I do?

Answer #1

Not to b harsh but isn’t it the CEO’s phone? If so then I think its the CEO’s buisness who calls it, if and when he wants him to stop I’m sure he will tell him himself to stop callin

Answer #2

Yeah, I know but he’s just a nice guy and doesn’t say anything directly. I’m the one who handles communication and everything and he agrees with me that there’s no point in talking to the guy… So that’s the thing!

Answer #3

It sounds like you’re a jealous wife…

Answer #4

Well to b honest thrs not much u can do. Its the CEO’s job to tell him to stop callin. Ask ur boss if its ok to tell the guy when he does call to say that he’s not available at the time. Or u cud ask the boss if its ok to tell him to stop callin or just to hang up when he does. Thr is caller ID on the phone, y not just not answer the call at all, but make sure its ok with the boss first. Sorry if I haven’t been much help, just tryin to give sugestions that may work

Answer #6

Answer #7

just have a thought in your mind that he is also a human and he has also feelings just like you. it will feel better and you can treat him well

Answer #8

There is a difference between being harsh and being firm. You can speak to him in a way that is completely polite and professional, and at the same time leaves no room for negotiation; for example: “Mr. (CEO) asked me to tell you that he would like you not to call him anymore, and will not be taking your calls, now that your association with the company has been severed. Thank you.”

Thanks!

Please see my next question! That’s a bit more important.
