It depends. If your afraid about what people will think than make sure that the people that you are around a lot know your personality. Then pigtails rock, especialy if you have curly hair and wear them low in front of your shoulders (personal fav.) :)

I have never put my hair in a ponytail because they look horrible on me but ya if done right way they can look good on some people

I love pigtails.

I always wear them low, and make them look like a bun by pulling them half through.

I think if done right, they can be cute. if your older though you can do them differently to make them more mature.

You can put them in a bun style on each side instead of leaving them hanging. You can put them in braids on each side of your head. You can put them really low.

I think the only one’s that look childish are the one’s with bows or the one’s put at the top of the head.

I LOVE pigtails and do them high most of the time but I’ve got shortish hair so they look good and I have a babyish face so I look real young
