Why do first person shooters have the main character not talk?

(halo, fear 2, bioshock etc)

Answer #1

Many first person shooters have main characters that DO talk. I think it depends on what company produced the game and what they were trying to portray.

It may have to do with double entendres, archetypes, metaphors, or other symbols that only a few people understand.

Or it could just be because when you are animating a game mouth movements take a longer time to animate and the company is trying to meet a deadline.

Answer #2

in the left 4 dead series all teh characters talk including the 1 you control

Answer #3

in halo, john talks

Answer #4

IN first person shooters you are the charachter and the developers saw that if they made the charachetrs talk its less believable that you are the charachter. So all they do is they set up the CPU charachters dialougue in such a way that you are persuaded to think in a direction that they want you to think. :)
