that has got to be the most stupid thing to say to someone who is suicidal, because to them their life is always going to be screwed up. I hate that when people say it to me, because again when I am having a depressive episode it seems as if nothing will ever change. agree or disagree?
Agreed. It is a stupid thing to say But maybe saying it is a "start" to a dialog meant to help the individual.
It is hard to communicate with a depressed individual because they constantly view things in a limiting and negative fashion. Admittedly they have their "reasons" for thinking that way. The best we can offer is to give them a sounding board upon which they can bounce their emotions and frustrations and maybe in the light of day the exposure will help them come to a better understanding of what is real and what is only perceived.
Yes it is annoying because you think it will never end, but how else are they supposed to remind you that things can get better? Give them a break, it's not exactly easy saying the right thing to a suicidal person.
