Perm problems!!!

Does a straighting perm, damage your hair?

Answer #1

I am a black woman and I have been getting my hair permed since I was 13 and it is growing very nicely. It does cause some damage especially if it is not done properly, coupled with any other permanent processes (suce as dye and bleach), not cared for properly (conditioned and moisturized) or heated. Basically since the hair is already sensitive it is risky but for those like me for who it is not an option to go natural it is worth it. Also, overheating the hair (aka straightening it everyday) can also cause extensive damage and breakage. Note: Straightening is very temporary. Hair reverts with any moisture or water based products (75 percent of hair products are water or alcohol based). However perming last 4-8 weeks. Talk to your beautician to figure out whats best for you and your hair texure and type.

My friend got her hair chemically straightened and it went really dry :s and she got really bad split ends. I’d recommend a good pair of straighters and some heat protect serum :)

pretty much anything chemical you put in your hair will kill it my mom did and it died seriously if you want to keep your hair healthy you should straighten it with a straightner about 2 times a week (as the guy who used to do my hair told me) the rest of the time use a blow dryer with a diffuser (I think thats what it is called) and use low heat (maybe even use the herbal essence PIN me straight hair products-thats what I use it works great for me)
