Why are some people offended by others saying Merry Chrismas or Happy Holidays to them?

some religions dont celebrate christmas so maybe they got offended by it

I’d be pretty offended if you said Happy Hokidays to me…I’m no Hoki….(just teasing) seriously though, some people are just sensitive to their religious beliefs - some think that taking “Christmas” away from the season is sacrilegious. while others, who are not religious, feel that by wishing them a “Merry Christmas”, you are enforcing a belief upon them. For the most part, I think people, in general, just need to lighten up.

because no matter what you say, someone will get offended. say what you want. its your life not theres

I have sort of the same problem like I go to this college prep conservative christian school, and I said Merry Chismakuh (christmas and chanukah) and everyone just stares at me like I am the anti-christ lol

It is a controversy drummed up by the religious right as a “war on Christmas” Even when I was a lad 40 years ago most stores recognizing that not everyone is Christian would say “Happy Holidays.” Now the religious right has decided that by omitting Christmas in greetings is an attack by the politically correct thought police.

Personally I tailor my greeting to the recipient. I say Merry Christmas to my Christian friends, Happy Hanukkah to my Jewish friends, and happy Yule or Winter Solstice to my pagan friends. When I have no idea what someone believes I say Happy Holidays.
